I am an administration apprentice with in IT Operations. My role in the Infrastructure Service Management team involves: - hardware and software reviews/renewals - managing diaries - creating monthly reports (e.g. IM, MI and overtime/callouts) - general BAU activites I also work with the Vendor Management team with involves: - creating NDA's for different vendors - getting all financial checks complete - setting up all SRM meetings - creating the semi-annual report
I have completed a course in Business Administration and am now looking into my next steps. Overall, I have gained new skills i.e. being able to tailor communication to different people.
My work is independent allowing me to have a real sense of achievement whenever I finish a piece of work. A bonus to this is that I get on really well with every member of my team and the Vendor Management team allowing me to feel comfortable when asking questions on work, if needed. M&G as a company is large but still gives off the same feelings of a smaller company. My first day compared to where I am today, my experience has exceeded my expectations.
I always feel valued by the teams I work with and continually receive positive feedback.
I was given a learning plan with every deadline allowing me to plan and organise myself. There was a bit of a mix up with my exams at the start but once I got onto the assignment portion of the qualification it was smooth sailing.
I had a monthly call with my assessor but knew I could email him if I ever had a problem. I was also given a email address by the provider to which I was guaranteed an answer with in the day.
I have weekly 1:1's to discuss my workload and it gives me a chance to raise any issues. I also have a weekly meeting with the BAU side of my team to see if anyone needs assistance/to even out the workload. I also had a monthly 1:1 with my manger to specifically talk about my apprenticeship and how I was finding it.
I love to go away for the weekend to visit friends at uni or go on holiday which I wouldn't be able to afford if I was strictly a student. The salary we are given is at the higher end of the apprentice spectrum and is similar to my friends that work at other companies.
I organised 2 volunteering days, one for the ISM team and one for the VM team. Info graphics/presentations where put together and shared with IT Ops. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The Christmas and summer parties were a great way to mingle with people in the business that I email but would otherwise never meet. I also made a great group of friends that I often go out with after work.
Yes
It is a great place to start your career and ease you into the world of work.
Make sure your personality comes across. Grades and experiences are important but at the end of the day they are hiring a person not a CV.
