I work as a senior associate within assurance at PwC. Daily I work mostly using excel and other company tools to carry out my own work as well as coach/lead teams of more junior staff members. Usual working day 9-7pm.
I have finished all my exams to become and exam qualified chartered accountant and will become time qualified by September 2018. Working mostly on computers helps develop excel skills and well in inter-personal and client facing communication. The process has helped me develop a number of key skills that can be transferred to any career.
Good experience teaming university with a paid placement as takes away the 'student budget' to an extent and helps to slowly ease you into the working world over a period of 3 months a year. Assuming you graduate with a 2:1 or higher you are offered a contract of employment without any further interviews - the university interview acts as the first and only interview for a job which is highly rare.
You are expected to be flexible during your placements. Depending on the jobs you are booked on the hours you are required to work differs greatly. Busy jobs can be very difficult time wise and you will be expected to work many hours of overtime for no pay and very little recognition of this fact. On the other hand jobs can be quiet with a 9-5 working day the norm - it all depends on your luck.
From the first day to the last it was all very structured with clear emails from both university and PwC. You are provided with training in both class learning and on the job. Support is available if required from both the university and PwC who both give sufficient time to study whilst in university and full time employment.
Support would be provided if required.
People manager provides a lot of support if needed whilst on placement.
