On a construction site heavily involved in the knowledge of the services installed into a building. This will be developed through site mangers, installing on site, liaising with trades/ laborers and visiting manufacturers
working towards a HNC in building services and have internal training organized by Mace
Interact well with colleagues and have adjusted well to construction culture. Mace have good work ethics and care a lot about apprentices. We are able to interact with senior members of Mace who I would never have the chance to if I was employed generally by Mace.
Have meetings with my manager, superior and director who show appreciation for my training and guidance to evolving my career. I am applauded for my knowledge and learning, showing my value to Mace
there is a clear and concise training plan developed for trainees to work through ensuring particular areas of knowledge are thought through. This is done as a signing off system from myself, line manager and then my superior. This are judged through power point presentations.
tutors help where they can for the one day they are in and are very helpful with answers provided to questions
should I need any assistance I know directly who to turn to with an open minded response. I have not had any particular problems but have created a relationship with managers and directors whereby I feel comfortable to approach with any concerns.
Travel expenses are reimbursed which has a big beneficial impact financially. My site has been carefully allocated to the most practical for me to travel to and from work so costs are kept to a minimum but I am still on a London project so still get good project experience.
Volunteering as a team is strongly encouraged and is easy to organize through Mace data base. There is an annual end of year event organized by HR for apprentices to interact with each other outside of working backgrounds. Mace have a rewards scheme where sports clubs and other events can be discounted.
Yes
you are respected as an apprentice, which is rare. You have an actual job that benefits the company and yourself with development with decent pay on the side.
Try construction as career path before you misjudge by what you see on TV. It is not always hard hats and concrete and there is so much to enjoy as everyday is different!
