  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been working with M&G Investments for the past 5 days for work experience and I was working in the sector of Prudential Portfolio Management Group (PPMG). My job title was a multi asset specialist trainee and I was working on a social media platform for businesses called Yammer, I named it the yammer project. The experience was very encouraging and I had a lot of support from my colleagues; I had many 1-1 meetings with people working in the PPMG department and they gave great advice on the best ways I could set up my future while having as much fun as possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the 5 days I was able to build/develop and maintain a positive working relationship with others and I worked with my colleagues to be able to achieve a specific target. I also developed my determination to achieve an end result by the end of my week here at M&G Investments. Meanwhile, a new skill that I developed was adaptability: I was able to adapt to the nature of work faster then I imagined. To conclude, I was able to approach situations and issues in a tactical & methodical way to break down problems and obstacles while keeping verbal & written communication active.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • M&G Investments definitely surprised me, I came into this work experience really nervous but as soon as I entered my office I was already being welcomed in a comforting & loving way. I also thought that someone would always be on my case, telling me what to do but you actually get to have a lot of freedom. Overall, this was definitely the best experience I have had so far and I hope to be in touch with M&G Investments throughout my career.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • My manager was the investment director in PPMG and he made me feel like I am literally part of his job. H e was totally honest with me and he really appreciated how much I contributed with him and his colleagues and he encouraged and helped me a lot throughout this working week. He believed that my engagement with his colleagues was impressive and that I has a good inquisitive personality which really boosted my confidence.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As soon as I got onto my account that they had kindly set up for me I already had a timetable/calendar set up for me which I could also edit. Hierarchy in PPMG didn't make a difference because everyone believed in equality which helps you excel and nothing brings you down, there will always be someone to support you whenever you are stuck on something which is really good.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My manager was very considerate about this being my first work experience and gave me the help that I needed. The PPMG team would always make you feel comfortable even if you're doing something wrong which shows a great attitude towards how they supported me. This was one of the main reasons behind why I really enjoyed this work experience and why I would love to interact with them again.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not only did I receive a lot of support from my manager but from the PPMG team. Everyone was happy to help and you wouldn't be neglected just because you're not as high ranked as the other person.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Although I didn't receive wages or anything like that because it is work experience they reimbursed me for my travel costs throughout the whole week. They also provided me with free lunch at the canteen which was very useful and helped me save a lot of my spending money.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • When I would finish my work I had the chance to book meetings with other people in PPMG to speak about what they specialise in and what advice they would give. This was very useful because I gained a lot of knowledge from colleagues who have had a lot of experience and some where even in the same situation as me.
