Apprentice civil engineer On a daily basis my tasks on site would be to provide employees with working permits varying on the work needed to be done. I also help setting up heights for specific jobs on site with a laser level and other various equipment. I additionally set up accurate points with a GPS to mark the points on site which have a specific role. On a day to day job the Interactions I have are enjoyable as I get to know everyone on site and have a laugh with everyone. And also interactions included would be external as well as I have previously had to go meet the public to pick up deliveries for the site and that they know nothing about the site or anything going on and they have so many questions, its good to get involved. My responsibilities in the work place would be to ensure a safe environment is present to protect myself and everyone else. The projects I have done so far 5 months into my apprenticeship is only Coupar Angus Substation, upgrading the capcity of the substation by replacing the existing GT bunds with new and improved ones.
I have achieved a BTEC level 3 diploma and am going onto do a NVQ and level 5 HND and even level 6 if I want to eventually. Internal training includes, toolbox talks such as cement dangers and what that involves to prevent and avoid anything. Also COSHH assessments which involves chemical based substances and training when using them. Additionally inductions for being onsite altogether. Health and safety courses can be done through the company externally and also any training needed to be done externally could be C1/2/3 for an energy based environment.
Site- love it Team- Brilliant Met me expectations and even more
Valued extremely and appreciated
The apprenticeship as a whole is very well organised and everything for college is done for you regarding accommodation and being on site you have plenty of time to organise a place to stay if being away from home.
I receive every training procedure or information that I ask for.
I receive the correct mentoring amount and support required to keep me learning everyday and keeping a good progression rate with my career
Pay is a major factor when looking into jobs, this is understandable and when being on the apprenticeship with BAM Nuttall from personal experience I would say pay is good considering all the factors built in, regarding paid accommodation when at college, travel provided and paid, the occasional lunch with the group paid, etc.
Many opportunities to grow and mature through the construction industry but must apply yourself for proper progression, put yourself and you will achieve anything you want and everything you want with BAM Nuttall
Yes
As it is a great programme to get into and has minimal or even no faults to complain about. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for anyone and everyone keen to get involved within the construction industry. This programme additionally avoids the fact of debt from university or college etc.
Be confident and be eager to learn when progressing up the ropes and always want to open new doors and have new experiences for your work and yourself.
