My role includes running daily test scripts, manually or automated to ensure the system meets client requirements. Testing is also used on a range of defects to ensure any previous bugs in the system are fixed for the best possible result, regular communication with test managers/leads and the development team is also used to ensure quality of testing.
Since working for CGI, I have developed a range of technical and soft skills which will help me in my career going forward. Some of these skills have been listed below for further reference: Programming Skills (SQL, C#) Regression testing skills Automated testing Networking/Security knowledge Time management Organisational skills Communication Skills
I enjoy my programme here at CGI very much, exceeding expectations of the course. The work is very much interesting and considered life changing and the company so far have been willing to help out with all of the necessary since undergoing my degree. I look forward to seeing what the lies at the future of CGI for me.
I feel very valued and appreciated by my current and previous teams, involving me with the majority of testing needed on the integration and support side of things. However, I do feel that I could be valued more within the company which is a big area for improvement, receiving no external recognition.
The programme started of being very organised, but since changing to the degree apprenticeship, every seems to be very un clear for the time being. However, this can be considered understandable as it is not down to the university or CGI, but better communication could be provided with the employer and apprentices on the course.
A fair amount of support is provided from the university, with regular calls with the university to discuss potential problems which do tend to be sorted out over time. Further communication could be pushed to ensure every student in the cohort is happy with the training and teaching. I somewhat enjoy the training provided by the university.
I have received a great amount of support since being on this programme, with regular meetings with senior mentors to ensure everything at university is going well, to updates with my people manager to ensure my career is on track. I love the support which has been provided so far and would like this to carry on to develop further skills.
Due to high living costs and comparing with other companies, I feel that the salary could be improved more.
There are a lot of opportunities to get involved with the local community outside of work whether this being volunteering at the local school for interviews or getting involved with mentoring inside the company. Various leisure/sport clubs are available, however I do not get involved with these due to prior home commitments.
Yes
So far, since working here for 2 years, I have loved all of the opportunities which have come my way since leaving college and would love others to have the same positive experiences which can be taken further if wanting to. CGI has a very friendly environment which new starters would love to kick off their career.
Be as positive as possible and ask as many questions as possible! No questions are silly questions and it is the best way to find out if CGI is the best company for you, this is what I done on my assessment day and have learnt a lot since then by asking.
