A tester. This involves addressing bug fixes and system testing. Many different aspects of the system require testing. I am responsible for filling out my own bug report and filing the bugs as closed if they have passed correctly. System/regression testing is my daily task.
I have only been here for 5 months and i have not achieved any official qualifications as the focus has been on knowledge transfer for the system. The system is complex and required a lot of training to understand.
The university aspect is tough although it makes the week feel shorter. The workplace aspect is a good alternate to the university and i can genuinely apply what i have learned at university.
I feel like a valued employee- especially considering that i am only a degree apprentice.
The university course itself is very poorly guided- however this is not CGI's fault. The CGI course had a good start in terms of guidance but once we had been in our projects for a couple weeks the guidance seemed to stop from the student team. It was left to my managers, perhaps rightly so, who were too busy to offer guidance on many things at the start. This was addressed eventually but from the start i was a little in the dark.
University - Adequate support
What i need i will be able to learn through CGI. A very supporting company.
Just about. Living in London is expensive and after food and fuel expenses i barely break even.
The social club offers many outside work opportunities. There are also graduate meet ups.
Yes
A free degree is something that everybody should be able to access. CGI does this. The work is also interesting. There are good company benefits. There are also member referral bonuses.
The application process is tough - make sure to be confident at the assessment days. A prior knowledge in IT might also be useful - even if applying for the business stream.
