I work as a PMO Administrator, assisting PMs in day to day business processes. My daily tasks include, organising meetings, taking minutes, project planning, running reports, internal communications, and business admin tasks. I interact with people across all levels of the business, from a service delivery level up to Directors.
I completed mandatory e-learning which gave me a better understanding of the company's values, mission, structure, and strategic goals. I have also started PRINCE2 training through work and am working towards my degree. I have improved my personal skills such as time management, organisation, and communication. I have also grown in confidence.
It is fairly full on but the workload is manageable with good organisation and time-keeping. It is enjoyable as I work closely with other people on the programme and get exposure to many great opportunities. The company have many benefits such as the sports and social club which allow you to interact with colleagues socially outside of work which has been excellent and played a huge part in getting to know my team.
I feel incredibly valued as I have been recognised for an award. I also feel well respected and trusted by my superiors, which is not always the case for young people in the workplace. The company also has excellent benefits schemes and really look after their employees with schemes to help with career development and physical and mental health.
The induction could have been better and on-boarding felt a little disorganised, it took a few months to get to a point where I knew what I was doing and had a challenging workload. But once you get settled in there is loads of support and tools to assist you in your daily role and career planning.
The university staff do not have much opportunity to provide additional support as we only attend one day a week, however I have fond them to be unhelpful as the course material is not great, the instructions are often unclear and they take a long time to reply to emails when I am seeking help.
Lots of support is available from buddies, career mentors, and managers. I have fortnightly meetings with my mentor to check that I am comfortable with my workload, to check how I am getting on at uni and to offer any advice and answer any questions. that I may have about work or uni.
My salary is competitive for someone my age and with my qualifications, but is lower than the industry average. However, my pay is good, considering the company are paying for my degree and my salary increases each year as I learn more and become more valuable. It is a salary you can live comfortably on outside of London.
There are loads of opportunities to attend external training courses, engage in volunteering through the corporate social responsibility scheme, and to interact with colleagues outside of work through the sports and social club. However, opportunities really do depend on your location and willingness to travel.

It is a really good company to work for as they look after their staff and ensure that you shape the direction of your own career. There is lots of support and the opportunity to earn while you learn is fantastic. I really enjoy working for CGI on the Degree Apprenticeship.
Make sure you know the background of the company and understand its values and mission. The assessment centre is an opportunity for the company to see how you work with other people so make sure you showcase your teamworking and communication skills. Make sure you ask loads of questions to find out as much as you can and check that CGI is the right place for you.
