  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'am a junior software developer each day I come into work at complete a different programming task so that my team and I can complete a project for a client. Each day I have to do a daily stand up where I discuss what I had done the day before and what I hope to get done that day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my skills in java whilst at work as this is the primary programming language I use; this has helped me become better at programming in general. I have also completed training days where I have began learning other programming languages which will help me with future projects.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much it gives me the opportunity to learn new skills and do what I love as an actual career. I get to also expand on my business skills which is something I would not be able to do at a university; I am treated very well here and get help whenever I need it. All these reason add up to why I enjoy working at CGI

  • 4. How valued do you feel by CGI?
  • I feel very valued in my workplace; I get help from everyone when I need it and I am treated as a team member who gets the same types of task as everyone else. I'm given constant feedback to know if I'm doing something well or whether I need to improve upon something.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme got of with a little bit of a rocky start with getting the assessor in and then trying to get the training together but once everything was in place things started to fall into place. But throughout the entire thing I have had constant support from my mentors and team members.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I get a lot of support from my training provider, if I ever need a question answered about either my training course or about what I need to do to pass my training unit I can easily contact either my assessor or training provider directly to ask them for help or to answer a question.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. I receive support from my team mates or manager if I am ever stuck on a task. I can always talk to someone if I am ever having any type of problem, I even have someone who I meet with on a regular bases who checks that I am doing alright and that I am enjoying myself and whether there is anything that could be done to improve my programme.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets my cost very well I always have enough for a daily basis and is used towards my travelling and living costs. If I ever need to go away for a training course all my costs for that are taking care of which is a great help as these can sometimes add up to a great cost.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of things to do outside of work; there are a lot company events and activities that I can attend. There's even a page that you can go to so that you can do different sports that are outside of the workplace. There are also a lot volunteering opportunities which are promoted through work.

  • 9. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend to a friend if they were wanting to go down the same career path as I was as I know from first-hand experience that doing it though an apprenticeship route is a lot easier way of learning and that this is a great company to be working for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • The advice I would give to someone going through this process is primary to be yourself, show how much you love what you do and find a company that you would really want to work for. If you get offers for other interviews I would say take them as this way when you do come to the interview you really want you will know how to be prepared. One thing I would of liked to of been told was that it wasn't going to be exactly like how I first thought but this is not to say that the course is anything less than amazing.
