  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is a 'Test Analyst' and I am currently working client site at Blackpool on a project for Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Before I was asked to work client site, I was initially assigned to the DES team and since then I've worked on both the GEN/VME and SAP teams when resources were needed elsewhere. As I have worked in 3 different test teams, I have been able to learn different skillsets for each team. My current test team, GEN/VME, I have been able to gain a good working understanding on 6 systems - NTC, Frameworks, ODS, OAS, Portal and CESA. My daily interactions (internally) are with my managers and my colleagues whom in which are working client site with me. Externally, my daily interactions are with clients. I have been on a number of projects since being at Capgemini, at one point I was a part of 6 different projects at the same time. Ensuring I managed my time correctly and prioritised the work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a vast number of skills, from communication skills by performing client demos, to technical skills by completing courses. I have completed the following; Induction to Testing course, SQL training, as well as attending Brown Bag sessions, e.g. on TestLink. Due to me having the opportunity to work on different teams, I have picked up essential skills/testing techniques across a range of technologies. Recently, I have also been involved in Automation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, I completed my work experience at Capgemini, and working here, it definitely met my expectations. The colleagues are all very helpful, and kind. They never make you feel excluded. The work is well balanced, if your manager thinks you can't handle a piece(s) of work, they won't assign it to you.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • I do feel valued by Capgemini, I have been given so many opportunities here, from performing a speech at Astons Annual Charter event to over 200 people, to being involved with client demos. I have been given £50 applaud rewards for completing projects on time, to the best of my ability, and going above and beyond to ensure they're delivered (i.e. working weekends/overtime). This shows how much Capgemini appreciate the work and the effort you are going to.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme itself is well organised, however sometimes the lecturers are late to their own lectures, and sometimes take a while to mark our exams. The support however, I know if I need extra help on a module, I can email the lecturer and they will reply and ensure they go out of their way to help me.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My reviewer is exceptional - she always asks how I am, how I'm feeling. She makes me feel very comfortable around her and I know I can go to her if I ever have a problem.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is also exceptional! He knew about a personal issue I had not long ago and phoned me up to see how I am feeling. Showing he really does care for my wellbeing. Support work wise is so good, he has organised weekly 1-2-1's to check up on how I'm doing/feeling whilst working away from home.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I believe this is 'ok' at the moment - it's not as much as I would like as I believe I am doing a lot more than other apprentices, however, often in these cases you have to be patient.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes. Capgemini do school talks, the KM for Change, Brathay Challenge, there is a gym at work so you can exercise after work, bowling events, team events, Christmas parties, and so much more!!!

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have learnt so much, and have been able to exceed what I thought I would be able to complete just in one year. There are so many amazing opportunities here, and I am now able to do things I never thought would be possible at such a young age. For example, I am 19 years old and I am buying a house at the end of this year - not many 19 year olds can say that! I am so proud of my achievements, and I'd want my friends to feel just as proud of themselves, I'd want to see them achieve more than they ever thought they could.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Be you. It sounds so simple, but Capgemini appreciate you just being you. If you are a determined individual, who wants the best for themselves and the company they are working for, you're on the right tracks.
