I currently work as an apprentice system analyst, I monitor applications a number of different applications, checking for availability, and try to resolve any issues that arise with the applications in my team as quickly as they can be fixed. I also monitor incidents that customers or the service desk raise and try to resolve them as quickly as possible.
Since Joining I have completed a number of training courses, these include; Java, Javascript, SQL, Project Management, I have also completed the ITIL foundation courses, and a number of courses on pluralsight to further my knowledge in the particular subjects I studied. I have learnt how to work in a team in a professional environment, as well as a number of other skills.
I enjoy working in my team, my colleagues are extremely friendly and always ready to help if I get stuck on an issue. I would say the company culture is quite corporate even though i don't think that's what they intended. I didn't really know what to think before coming into the apprenticeship but I am happy that I decided to join.
I don't feel extremely valued by CGI, Internal recognition is to a minimum and External recognition doesn't exist. I do have quite high involvement however in my project and in my team, if it wasn't for the closeness of the team I don't think that I would feel valued at all
The programme at the start was quite messy, after the induction we had to wait around for SC clearance which I can understand, during that time we didn't have too much to do at all. Some of the training courses have not been too informative, whereas others have helped me quite a bit for the day-to-day side of the Job
Our training Provider is QA, They have been pretty good at offering support for a number of issues we may or may not have.
Our employer does provide quite a lot of support, there is a team to help with health & mental health. We get quite a lot of support regarding any problems that may arise for example stop smoking initiates, counselling and the list can go on. I have received a lot of support from my Line Manager regarding work handsome work issues.
With all things considered, with a recent payrise my salary just about covers my costs, including paying rent, food, bills, car, travel costs, etc. Without the pay rise I'm not so sure I would have been able to continue the apprenticeship as money was quite tight and wasn't looking like it was getting any better.
The company does provide a few events outside of work , such as staff parties, sporting events(e.g. the CGI football championships in paris) Christmas Parties. CGI also have quite a few charity events which I can 100% get behind, these can be from auctioneer car park spots to having a team climb the brecon beacons for charity.
