I am a Materials Engineering CAM Project Engineer. I am therefore responsible for the day to day running and reporting of the CAM. This involves monitoring spend, trends and looking forward to future spend and cash flow. I monitor the risks associated with the CAM and how to minimise these where possible.
Yes, I have learnt alot on Earned Value Managment as a specific skill to project control. I have undertaken internal business training on the full project lifecycle for a CAM team. My skills of working in a team and communicating with others have been flung in at the deep end at time, and something I previously thought I had mastered at school was taken to a whole new level - no better way to learn though. I've learnt that everyone is in the same boat at work, its a team effort to achieve a goal not a individiual performance.
I love working and learning and studying, they go hand in hand. It has met my expectations with the work/study balance. My team have been welcoming and have taught me the ropes where possible in their own busy schedules. The culture of BAE is different to what I imagined, there is a lot of negativity flowing throughout but I knew that would be the case in a large organisation, you just have to make the most of been the bright eyed fresh face to the business!
I feel valued by my immediate team and stakeholders which I report to. BAE wouldn't fall to pieces within my abesnces but it would put a stress and strain on my team so I feel value in the work I complete as I know it has an affect on the surronding area. PDR's and ones to ones at BAE give you the recongition and praise you deserve. Work completed is usually greated with a thank you and a smile, which is always nice when you have spent time on it. I feel thoroughly involved in all team meetings and workload.
Good corporate and workplace induction. The degree programme I am on takes a much higher importance when studying so higher apprenticeship is partially neglected but I know the theory I am learning as part of my degree will support my apprenticeship too. Support from college and managers at work to complete and undertake all aspects of the programme.
Sometimes feels like we are looked down on by our tutor and are our opinions are less valued regarding the programme but they shouldn't forget we are working too so they should look at us more grown up and indpendant rather than a school environment. As for guidance and support they know the HA well and will endeavour to help where required.
Really good support, ask where they can improve workload to include all competencies and ensure I am progressing at the right speed. Support the extra activities which come along such as college days, out of bound experience. Support all aspects of work, university, apprenticeship and personal life.
Meets needs.
Outside of work I am a keen sports person playing hockey for my local team and going horse riding.
Yes
Fantastic opportunities to move if you don't want to spend your whole life doing the same job. Lots of people to meet and places to go.
