Software engineer: My day consists of stand-up meetings in the morning followed by the required development tasks or deployments for that day. Software development tasks can include anything from GUI (graphical user interface) to back-end and sometimes full stack. Regular meetings are also held throughout the day to stay updated and have catch ups with colleagues.
I have learned countless skills since being at CGI. I have learned valuable skills around both business and technology as CGI provide the perfect stance and connection between these two. This is very beneficial for any role as understanding each part of a project can help you to manage it and meet deadlines. Alongside developing a better product. More skills include software development, GUI development, UX analysis, Project management.
I enjoy the programme thoroughly, it relates work and study very well and in terms of employment your world is your oyster, you can chose whatever role suits you and change around whenever. This allows you to be constantly engaged and enjoy your working experience. At university it is a very social bunch and although it is intense, it is also quite relaxed and filled with enjoyable modules.
You feel very valued at CGI, you are provided buddies and mentors alongside dedicated student recruitment teams to assist you if you ever need any help. The whole of CGI is very supportive and are all willing to lend a hand if you ever need one. Any professional or study issues are handled with ease and are very supportive in doing so.
The structure of the program is currently going through a change from a sponsored degree program to a degree apprenticeship with government regulations being introduced so some aspects are still a little bit hazy towards the final year. However, previous years have been very clear and I imagine once the transition is properly complete then it too will be very well structured.
The university has very helpful staff that are contactable and are willing to lend a hand or clarify if needs be. However as it is a degree they are only allowed a certain degree of guidance but most lecturers are very clear and reasonable with their support. They also communicate clearly with mentors and CGI.

Salary is competitive and there are many financial benefits with CGI which include: expenses which cover any travel costs if you need to work elsewhere; overtime pay; share purchase plan where CGI match your share investments each month, pension plan; lots of training opportunities, relocation policy which includes paying your first month’s rent if relocating.
There are many opportunities outside of work, which include training opportunities, sports and social club events and the annual tour. Something I personally attend is 7 a side football in Reading every Wednesday alongside various other events. I am doing a tough-mudder with CGI this year also. All these events are either free or subsidised.
