I am a Project Management Higher Apprentice as which I rotate through 6 placements (Cost Control & Risk Management, Estimating, Programme, Planning, Workbook & Change Control and Reporting) over 2 years within the Project Controls office working on National Grid projects for Cables, Overhead Lines, Substations and more combined with studying for a nationally renown Project Management qualification.
National Grid has a keen focus on personal development plans aimed at developing new or existing skills and there is plenty of training on offer to achieve desired development
The whole experience is 100% enjoyable in every aspect and I would thoroughly recommend to anyone either recently finishing sixth form/college or who wants to start a career in Project Management.
National Grid values their Apprentices very highly throughout the company and there's a significant culture in developing them for higher leadership roles. The apprentices within Project Controls are very highly regarded by leadership teams and their importance is very well recognized.
The programme is very well structured with the placement rotation and training dates set out before your start date to ensure smooth running of the apprenticeship.
Our training provider (3aaa) is nationally renown and works with top companies throughout the country so being well experienced offering apprenticeship qualifications they know how to offer the required levels of support.
Our employed does it's very best in offering as much support as they possibly can. Whatever issue someone may have or if they're struggling with someone the necessary support required will always be there.
The starting salary on offer is exceptional and well beyond that on offer from other companies yet there is still regular salary increases and benefits on offer to all apprentices.
National Grid offers all kinds of things outside the usual day to day work to develop their employees and to give exceptional work life balance
Yes
National Grid is one of the top employee friendly companies and highly regards their apprentices like no other company. There are no even minor criticisms I can think of I have had since beginning my scheme.
If I hadn't applied it would've been the biggest mistake I would have ever made in life. You have got to apply
