I am a tech apprentice at GSK. I am part of an above site service and possess a role within the E2E (end to end) service team. This is whereby we manage data within the system the company use called SAP, in order to enable the business to run efficiently from day to day.
From this apprenticeship I will earn a foundation degree and foundation diploma within IT. As well as these official qualifications, I have been able to develop lots of skills also such as communication, professionalism and organisational skills.
The work is brilliant as it is what I enjoy doing and hope to do in the future. Alongside this, I have an amazing team who are very friendly and supportive to both myself and my role within the company.
There is lots of recognition given by many parts of the company. As an apprentice, you are deemed as a fresh mind and so your opinions are always welcomed when it comes to all sorts of topics both within your current sector and regarding changes to the business. Within my role, recognition is often given by team members when tasks are completed to a high standard and feedback is often given to both praise and guide you. The people you do tasks for are also keen to give their gratitude as you assist them in performing their roles.
Induction by GSK lasts two days in order for you to get the right access for your sector. After that, lots of both online training and shadowing is required in order to be educated and familiarised with your role. For my apprenticeship, one day of my working week is allocated to my studies which enables me to complete my assignments and study for any upcoming exams.
My tutor is always available to message with queries and they tend to get back to you rather promptly. Work is marked within a five day timeframe which enables you to review any feedback and amend your assignment in order to get it marked and for a quick turnover.
Support is given throughout the business through several individuals and groups. These include fellow apprentices, former graduated apprentices, your team and manager/s.
The salary at GSK is quite generous and covers all bills and costs I have to pay out for. This includes living, travel and daily costs. It also gives me enough to go out and socialise both with friends and people I meet at work.
There are lots of company events. Some include apprentice trips such as resilience events and also team building. Christmas is also celebrated with a party and sectors often host lunches and dinners which you can attend. These give you an opportunity to meet new people and socialise with people from many different backgrounds within the company.
Yes
It is truly a great experience which I wouldn't just recommend to friends but anyone interested in this sort of role.
The application process is quite long and strenuous, but well worth the effort and patience as many people apply for a role here. They also open and close the application process quite early so I would definitely keep an eye on this. GSK often look for character and personality within a potential employee and also someone who shares their values as a company.
