my job title is an account manager for Japanese reinsurance, I handle accounts that come in from japanese insurance companies covering a range of libaility, treaty and property business. Daily interactions include emailling clients and reinsurers, phonecalls and face to face meetings with clients and reinsurers. Responsibilities include representing Aon as a professional and sound insurance broking entity. Every day is different, which is one of the exciting things about this apprenticeship, however genrerally I will come in and sort through and reply to any emails, and complete tasks such as uploading accounts onto the system and creating a cover note for these
i am working torward smy Cert CII qualification, i have developed my technicial abilities, recieved training courses regarding a huge variety of insurance procedures and content. external training courses include two weeks away at the begining of my apprenticeship consisting of training courses regarding emailing conventions, health and safety training, how to deal with the potential pressures of working.
the work that i recieve in my team is very enjoyable as it is challenging but only to the extent that it is positive for my professional growth, therefore it allows for me to develop my skills and knowledge but isn't stressful or too difficult. my team carry a positive outlook and have been very welcoming and approachable which is warming when you havejst started and things can be quite daunting. The company culture of Aon as a whole is verypositive and enjoyable to work for; everyone is approachable and down to earth. in particular one thing that is noticeable is that there is no overt heirachy system; there is more of a encouraged flat hierachy, this created the impression that everyone is equal and are treated the same. I feel as though Aon has exceeded my expectations in how the employees are treated due to Aon's care of the employee's well-being and welfare.
Very valued as people will always ensure to give appreciation for doing somehthing for them and praise for when it is done well. there is a lot of recognition for those that succeed at Aon; for example the apprentice of the year awards are a chance for AOn to show appreciation for the young memebers of Aon.thereis also a lot of oppuruntiy to get involved with a number of projects both internal and external to your team; as well as encouragement to get involved.
My apprenticeship programme is very well structured as we report back to a talent coaach once every month who ensures everything is running smoothly and that we are comfortable with how the programme is going. We recieve two weeks of training at the begining of the apprenticeship including training on our exams we will sit, emailing conventions, team work builiding excercise. Additonally we get one workshop day with each exam we sit; the reason i have not given this section a 10 is that i believe more support could be given to those sitting an exam; although there is already a fair amount given already.
every month we have a meeting with our 'talent coach' in which we discuss any problems she can give us guidance on, including exams, professional relationships etc. MY talent coach carries an involved and enthusiastic attitude torwards helping us; she is always on hand to reply to emails, always keeps us up to date with our studies and our programme, and always happy to help us.
my line manager always makes the effort to support me in my studies, my apprenticeship and general work. my manager ensures to always give me guidance in the jobs i do, give me advise on how to do something if im not sure and is always happy to explain something im not sure of.
having a job in the city can be strenuous on your earnings; additionally supporting a lifestyle can be expensive and costly (e.g. buying lunch, travel costs, keeping fit), however with a budget i am able to spread my earnings across the month fairly easily. It is unlikely that my earnings will satisfy all econimic wants for one month; therefore i often have to weigh up what i want and what i need in order to spend accordingly to my earnings. It is unlikely for the first few years that you're going to be on the most ideal salary but the most important thing for me is to save money; this would be easier if i didnt have to pay out so much for travel and daily costs, however Aon have been generoous in the past to increase those working in London's pay with the costly lifestyle in mind.
The CII email regularly offering tickets to networking events therefore it is made very oppurtunistic to attend company and industry events. additionally Aon regularly hold co,mpany events and encourage young members to attend. an exmaple of this is that recentlymembers of my apprentice intake have recenttly been asked to organise and host an event for their AOn division within claims. there are also teams within Aon that bring the community more together; for example there is an AON football club in which some of the apprentices are in. when i am not working, i like to enjoy my hobbies such as sports, reading and spending time with friends and family; i also dedicate a lot of time to studing torwards my Cert.
Yes
Aon is a well rounded company that provides extremely good welfare for its employees. Aon also ensures its employees fit into the division that they are in and enjoy the work they do; as well as being good at it; therefore making it easy for you to find something you love to do within the firm.
be yourself; dont let nerves ge tthe better of you and remember although it is daunting everyone is still human and they want you to succeed. show enthusasism and a motivation to learn and work hard. In regards to assesment days; try not to be too overpowering and show that you can work with other perosnality types whether they be quiet, loud, know it all or just think they do. Use this application time to show your best qualities. Grab every oppurtunity that comes your way no matter how small it may seem; networking and getting your name out there helps.
