Clearing tickets from ticketing system. Learning new business processes for me to be able to move onto the next part of working in the team.
Definitely, I couldn't script before, now I have some knowledge of that. Professionally I have developed and can see what is expected of me in a corporate company. I was proud of my communication skills before but I can now relate my communicating methods to different situations throughout life and have generally matured during this time.
I am enjoying it a lot at the moment. I understand we need to learn things before we can perform a function so I'm happy being in the transitional phase while learning specific business systems and applications so I can be of more use and feel more important in the team.
I feel very valued by UBS. My team contribute to this feeling a lot as well as the generic structure/introduction to UBS. I am told by my friends that I am lucky when I tell them stories or things that happened at work.
I think it is very well structured. If I had to find anything wrong with it so far it would be that the course we are doing in Unix is a bit too late down the line, I could have benefited with that first as I use a lot of bash scripting in my role, as do most of us. Other than that I have nothing negative to say about it.
QA have been great, our advisor has always been there if we need to ask a few questions and given us someone else to contact if she will not be available. The courses are well taught, a great balance of fun and learning. Also to note the level of support for our courses/exams has been excellent as well, if we fail we can retake, if we don't feel confident the first time we can wait and do the exam a week or so later to get more revision time in etc. Example, On the first course we did I had a holiday booked for the second week of the course months before the date for the course was given. They were very understanding and helped me as much as I wanted in the lead up to the exam, I asked for material we were not supposed to receive before the first weeks end so I could take it on holiday with me and even though it is against the policy to allow a student to do that they allowed me to. No quarrels at all.
Again, my line manager/team have been great. I have gone through a tough time with family life at home recently, all my team have been nothing but supportive. Allowing me time off if needed, which is more appreciated than I think they realize. My team gets very busy sometimes and there have been times where I've been left to my own devices, purely because the rest of my team are needed urgently in another matter. I'd like to think I use this time productively and continue to further my knowledge as much as I can in relevant subjects.
The salary is fine for my current life situation. Covering costs for transport can be a bit of a hurdle, some of us spend £200+ on travel each month, then there is rent, cost of living etc. If you are decent with your finances/ balancing your money spending, it's a very reasonable salary. The whole package just increases the experience, having discounts for some things, having access to a gym and a dentist/doctor etc. is very appealing. We all go to work for money at the end of the day as we need to survive, but the package really makes you feel like we are valued.
There are so many events and meetings or social events to attend, almost so many it is hard to keep track of all of them. I've never worked in a company that has had as many extra curricular tactivities as UBS.
Yes
The overall feeling of working in the company, the facilities, the technology, the company ethos is phenomenal. All about collaboration and helping one another, and as far as I have experienced so far, everyone follows this trend. A wage not to shake a fist at, the experience is second to none as well.
Be yourself, you can teach someone a task or job role but you can teach someone a personality or enthusiasm. As an apprentice going into UBS they haven't picked me for my previous skills as I had next to none, they see an enthusiastic person willing to learn and develop them. Everyone dresses very smart as expected so make sure you don't look too scruffy all the time. Be confident, they are not scary people they are very welcoming. (Who I have met so far anyway)
