As an apprentice site manager I am currently shadwoing everyone on site in order to gain viltal on site knowledge as this is my first consteuction based job. My roles involve completing a daily site diary, maintaining everybody is in correct PPE and completing any outstanding tasks required.
The skills I have leanrt so far on site are basic but have given me the opportunity to continuonsly build on these skills. As our job is incredibly vast I am always learing new skills whilst developing existing skills such as people skills & communication.
Im extremely greatful for the oppportunity given to me yb John Sisk & Son and plan to reward them by achieving a terrific result in both my on site performances and my college work.
I am always being praised by the company for my contiuing effort in striving to learn new skills and it reflects on my personal motivation to succeed. Everyday comes with challenges and stresses but are dealt with in a smooth and appropriate manor 99% of the time.
The programme itself is very organised and structured as it gives me the time on site to constatnly learn the practical side of construction and when it maybe too much to take in all at once I am sent to college to learn the theory side to it. It is a very efficient way of learning.
Whilst at college my tutors could not help me more. They are always helping me learn in order to gain the best qualification possible and there is always guidance and opportunities to voice my problems if need be and the are on hand to support.
Everyone at work is always on hand to support me whilst im new to this role and they understand this and are always willing to give me guidance. My mentor has been amazing in being just that as any questions I have he is always there to answer and is always there supporting me.
As i live so close to the site there is no need for travel costs. As a teenager going into a new job with such a lucrative amount it by far covers all my living costs as well as being able to socialise more with freinds and enjoy life more not worrying about money all the time.
The company are always holding events in which im invited to. they will also cover the costs of these events as well so the worry about how you are going to afford it is averted. Also, as working for such a big constrction company you often get sub contractors offer events such as a box at sports events or dinners out.
Yes
They give you the time to learn and realise you are an apprentice in which your role is ultimatley to learn.
It is one of the most straight forward application processes out there, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
