I am currently on a Graduate Management Trainee scheme and my role involves project planning, actively networking and engaging with people at senior level, effective communicating with my company's stakeholders and most importantly, learning how to lead and manage a team, through numerous internal and external training that my company offers. An example of a project I am currently managing is that of developing an element of social value to one of the most deprived communities in UK. I am the first point of contact for everything that has to do with the project, which means that any ideas or complaints come straight to me and I have to deal with it promptly and efficiently. This has also allowed me to develop my work-network and get myself known all around the company.
I am studying for my Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management and I have learnt a lot of new skills thanks to the many training courses already attended, such as how to deal with difficult people, how to manage conflicting situations, how to coach others toward their own development and so on. I have also improved my ability to take initiative, as in many cases I have found myself at a standstill and I could rely solely on my own initiative to progress. I have improved a lot the way I communicate with others, probably due to the fact that, as part of the scheme, I was required to live in different parts of the country, which means that I have gotten to know people from different social background and I have had to find ways to manage myself accordingly.
I enjoy the program and the level of visibility it offers across the whole business. I really like the company work-ethic, as well as the people who are part of it and so far it has exceeded my expectation of what I was expecting from a Graduate Scheme, when I first applied. The teams I have worked with have been very diverse, nevertheless there was always a constant in everyone's behavior, and the company culture has everything to do with it.
I feel very highly valued by ENGIE. Our Talent Manager never misses a chance to remind us how important we are and how much trust he put in us to exceeds everyone's expectations. The managers I have worked with have also showed themselves very appreciative and constantly challenged me to do more and better. Recognition has never been lacking either, and managers are more than willing to put your name forward for new initiatives.
The program is extremely well-organised. The Talent Team organised a whole week for new recruits to have a look at what the company does as a whole and took us all around UK, from London to Grimsby, from fancy headquarters to in-the-middle-of-nowhere wind turbines and has really made an effort to give us a feel of what it is really like to work for a company like ENGIE. The level of support is also a very strong point for the company, as every new graduate is assigned a buddy and a mentor, tasked with offering support, advice and help whenever any difficulties comes up. Internal training are well-organised and delivered by very experienced people in the company. ENGIE has only just started using QA to deliver external training, which hasn't been the best provider so far, but it is surely worth noticing how the company is really making an effort to better its offer.
The internal training provider have been very supportive and have guided us towards developing different skills that I initially wasn't aware were fundamental in the management sector.
I have received the best support from my employer, as well as a lot of encouragement in progressing with my career and finding my actual call in life.
The graduate salary is extremely good for, as well as the expenses that we can claim when out on training or company visits. The relocation package is a great plus, given the rotational nature of the scheme.
The company organizes many events throughout the year, especially linked with volunteering opportunities and working together with the volunteering partners of choice. There are also a lot of conferences that employees can join, that stimulate everyone's thirst for knowledge. The company has a great benefit package as well and social nights are always a big hit!
Yes
The work culture that the company adopted is one of the best I have ever experienced and it is surely a great place to work, especially at the beginning of one's career. The level of support available across the whole company is fantastic and there are a lot of opportunities to step-up to the next level of your work career.
Make managers notice you at the assessment center and never underestimate your capabilities
