Desktop Support Engineer - Our overall goal is to provide support across the north Tyneside council. This includes: Company and third party software installation, providing devices for users to work on, keeping record of all devices and where they are and who they are with, fixing broken devices and replacing them if needed, giving support to other teams within IT, work to SLA's.
I have learnt many new skills within IT such as: Different components of PC and laptops and where they are located, completing different Baltic courses such as Networks+, learning about the business and working to SLA's, my confidence has grew and my communication skills have improved drastically, setting up mobile phone's, IPad's and tablets for users.
I enjoy everything about the programme, my team makes me feel welcome and I get along with everyone, I love getting stuck into work and challenged everyday, I enjoy meeting new people who has the same interests as myself.
I feel I'm an important member of the team and get acknowledged for my work by member's of the team and managers. I get involved with many tasks within my team, other teams and with my manager.
I think the programme is great, it offers the correct amount of training around my experience at work. I enjoy having monthly training weeks which allow me to gain a lot more knowledge about things I may not encounter much at work and also help me better understand devices I currently work with.
I receive fantastic support from my training provider Baltic. I have monthly reviews which go over my progress, what I've been working on, my manager's comments etc. If I ever need support or help I can contact my assessor at Baltic, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions].
I receive equal amounts of support from my managers, also with monthly one-to-ones which go over how I feel about my job, what I'm enjoying, what I'm not enjoying etc.
I pay raise would always be warmly welcomed, but I feel the salary is competitive and over minimum wage for apprentices which I great. I manage to pay for my travel costs, tunnel fair's, personal monthly costs such as gym membership, food and still have enough at the end of the month.
The company runs events outside of work normally on weekends but there isn't many opportunities around my area for apprentices like myself within IT.
