I am a graduate management trainee so I move teams every 6 months. In my previous role I was out on site a lot conducting energy surveys and visiting clients. In my new role, I am a lot more office based conducting energy analysis on existing energy plants. As well as trying to optimise existing energy plants.
I have developed technical skills that I gained during my masters in engineering. I have also learnt about working from home and managing a constant workload. Additionally, I have had to participate in lots of internal and external training during my 6 months which made completing my day job difficult.
I enjoy it very much. I have been able to meet people from across all levels of the business, as well as developing management skills I hope to use in the future.
I feel very valued by ENGIE. My first placement manager was very supportive and appreciative of my ability to slot into a busy team. I have also been nominated for a Young Energy Professional award for Energy UK.
The graduate scheme is very well organised, as well as the training we have received. We have had a broad range of training in management and leadership skills, that will help us for years to come.
QA provides a skills coach who meets with us every 6 weeks. I have not found her entirely helpful as she is very disorganised and unclear about what I have to complete and why. Additionally, they have brought in external markers for our assignments who have not been informed of our positions as non-managers therefore making it difficult to complete the assignments with real life examples.
ENGIE give us a great deal of support around completing assignments and sending us for relevant training. Additionally, when we have concerns or we are stuck they are willing to help us.
I believe that it is a generous salary for an entry level graduate job and I feel lucky to be receiving this. Those who live in London receive the London allowance (10%) which helps, but doesn't cover the cost of much.
There are lots of opportunities outside of work. There are always events going on, internal and external, as well as the social side of the job.
Yes
ENGIE is a great employer who trusts and values its staff. Everyone that I have met throughout the business is willing to go above and beyond to help their colleagues, no matter of their level. I think that this is a true reflection on the business' values.
I would say that be yourself, be relaxed and open and willing to learn, and most of all, be friendly! That is the mentality of everyone who works here.
