I am a Software Engineer/Developer at Atos, some of my responsibilities working within the Applications Management team is monitoring/fixing issues with applications we support and writing programs/scripts to automate tasks where possible. I also deal with tickets to support the users of applications my team supports and manage Data within those applications
I have learnt how to program in c#, C++, Python, Perl, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Shell, Batch and VB. I have learnt lots of programming constructs and have a good knowledge of Database architecture/SQL and also web development, i am now competent in using HTML, CSS and Javascript as well as ASP.NET Development. I have also learnt a lot about general IT i.e. Networking, Servers, Routers, OS's and Security/Cryptography
This programme has surpassed my expectations exponentially, my office is a great work environment and i get along with my team, they support me if i need it and are easy to get along with. I always enjoy coming in to work and have yet to have a bad experience in my workplace. I love my job and where i work
At this moment i am still learning but i do feel valued within my team, although i have yet to get full security clearance, which means i cant work on Production Environments, I am given tasks to do on Development environments and writing scripts or programs to use in Production. I feel very valued in my workplace
My programme is structured very well, I am due to finish this level in my apprenticeship 6 months early, I have met and still stay in touch with friends from the Induction week although i do wish there was more opportunities to re-engage with these people through Atos before the ceremony at the end of the 2 years, the mentor system is also good but can be confusing as you get a mentor and a buddy
My Tutor is always available via email and always responds to any questions/uncertainties i have with the course material, he has pushed me to my full potential and as a result of this i am finishing 6 months before expected, he always has a positive attitude and instead of fixing my mistakes he makes sure i understand my mistakes and learn from them
I receive a lot of support from my manager and full team in any way i need it, my manager always says if there is anything she can do to support me in any way just to let her know. In my team if i do not understand something it is always explained to me until i fully understand and everyone has a great attitude
My Salary meets my costs well and i receive a salary increase every 6 months as i become more qualified, I have been able to afford things that i could never even dream about getting before and it has meant i am able to be more prductive and enjoy my time outside of work a lot more than before.
There is opportunities availabe to me
Yes
It is a brilliant experience and if you put the work in there is a guaranteed career ahead of you, the packages that you receive as an employee are brilliant (Free Private Healthcare, discounts through Prosper, Dental Insurance, Salary Sacrifice Schemes for technology or cars at 0% interest). I would recommend an apprenticeship at Atos to anyone
Push yourself as much as possible and it wont go unnoticed, make sure to balance your coursework and workload in the workplace because you need to have a good understanding of both, take advantage of any opportunities you are presented with and plan your route to the induction week!
