Mechanical Fitter apprentice, my daily tasks involve working as part of the days maintenance team to complete preventative maintenance, breakdowns and scheduled work.
Through my apprenticeship I have developed existing skills and learnt new ones. From the first week I was taught basic first aid, became IOSH qualified and started to work towards my BTEC Level 3 in mechanical engineering. I have since completed the BTEC achieving Distinction * Distinction. I'm currently working through my NVQ level 3 and hope to complete it soon. I have personally developed communication skills, talking to work colleagues and contractors. this has been a good boost in confidence.
I thoroughly enjoy working as part of a team, it gives me the sense of belonging. the companies culture towards completing the highest quality of work always pushes you to do the best you can 100% of the time, this coupled with the support of the fantastic managers we have on site allows you to constantly develop! I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship as it gives me a sense of achievement, I look forward to the new challenges every day.
it is clear the apprentices are valued within the company and team. we are allowed to take part in critical tasks and rolls. This shows the confidence our managers have in us, and the drive we have to be the best.
From the word go we were supported and made to feel as part of the team, from the initial team building to the training program the company has supported us with a well structured program. the training is completed off site in a central training facility where our timetable was set from start to end. throughout the training we were always aware of where we needed to be and with what equipment. being off site for the first 6 months meant we didn't have contact with the team, but t make sure that we had contact our line manager made regular visits to make sure we were ok.
We received support throughout the program by not only our company but the training provider ensured that we were looked after at all times.
I receive continual support from my manager and team on a daily basis. they all want us to achieve the best we can. if they see potential they will push you!
The wage covered the cost of living, while away all meals were provided and traveling cost was covered.
As a team we organise social events, these work well to get to know members of the team you wouldn't otherwise talk to.
