  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a second line support technical analyst. I am in charge of checking systems in the mornings to ensure that batch jobs are behaving correctly. I do change approvals and ticket divying also. I am in charge of an application that is above and beyond the responsibility that I should have at my level.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed a level 3 apprenticeship with city and guilds. I have been on internal courses over the period and I have attended numerous external courses to improve my skills. I have learnt a lot on the job and have been supported with that.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is great when you start, it does however, get old, fast. The team that I am in is very supportive when they aren't snowed under. I did not know what expectations would be as I have come from a different job path. I have however, never had a problem with performance and I am complimented in every one to one meeting that I have.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by E.ON?
  • I believe that I am a important asset to my team. I do however think that this has been a disaster. From the initial 6 months of the apprenticeship we were informed of a situation where IT would be getting outsourced. A terrible way to get younger people into IT when they're under the pressure of no longer having jobs.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Brilliant! Throughout all problems on the course I have been supported. This isn't just relating to work life, some individuals are very supportive of what is going on in the outside world and can be very comforting. The two co-ordinators for our apprenticeship have been absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Support was amazing and I believe that they do not get the praise that they are rightly worthy.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • This is one of the key areas where we struggled. We did not have enough tutors available. Their increased workloads meant that we were behind in some areas.

    5/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Please see 5.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Brilliant. These couldn't be better. The company values it's staff and pas well. Training courses, travel and accommodation included.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • No.

    6/10

  • 9. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • Outsourcing to India.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • They have a big apprentice scheme and I'm sure that whatever career path you're looking for (albeit not in IT) you will be supported and the possibilities are what you make of them.
