My job is a Project Support Apprentice while studying my Level 4 Project Management qualification. Currently I am doing my own project whereby I am managing the upgrade of one a the primary systems in Global Freight. I also look after the Project Office administration on a the daily basis. I ensure compliance throughout the Business Solution Team, facilitate resource meetings to.
I have learnt a lot of skills during the last 2 years. From Time Management, developing communication with stakeholders and people within the business. I have also gained a qualification in Agile Project Management (Foundation). I am currently completing Project management Qualification, included is a Level D IPMA Exam. I have been on Business Case & Investment Appraisal, Principles of Project management, Planning, Risk & Quality, Stakeholder Communication training courses. I have learnt a lot about the project office and how projects worked.I quite often used to sit in other PMs meeting to understand their style.
I overall enjoy my programme. The team i work in is amazing and are really supportive of my work and happy to have me work along side them. The company as a whole is great to work for they surrounded the apprentices with a great support network. I have a buddy, a mentor, my line manager, my HR manager and my apprentice manager to go if i need anything. The workload is great as I am involved in a variety of projects/activities. It met my expectations and more.
I feel valued within Gist, as I have the opportunity to work in with different project managers and i see a variety of projects. I had the chance to go into the operational world at gist for 2 weeks to help with Customer Food to Order. I experienced first hand the pressures of working in a warehouse and also working the night shift.
The apprenticeship programme is well structured. I have had lots of training, including external training. I started out completing Level 3 Business Administrations Qualification then had the oppertunity to choose Level 4 Project Management or Level 4 Business Administration. I chose Level 4 Project Management and have been lucky with the support provided. I get excellent support from my apprenticeship manager, my line manager and my mentor. Also a lot of support from the team around me.
The training provider provides a lot of support. My skills coach who comes in every 6 weeks, has aan agenda to run through and also reads my work and provides feedback then and there. I also have contact with tutors on my training courses who again are widely knowledgeable and are very happy to help. I enjoy doing my qualification with the training provider as there is a lot of support.
I get excellent support from my apprenticeship manager, my line manager and my mentor. Also a lot of support from the team around me.
The Salary at Gist is paid very well for an apprenticeship. Before I had the job at Gist, the time when I was applying for different apprenticeship the salaries were low. Gist definitely offers a excellent salary could not fault it.

I would recommend Gist to a friend because the company as a whole is very welcoming. I also think doing an apprenticeship in a company that gives you the opportunity to thrive and challenge yourself is great. I have learnt a lot about Gist and logistics, with so much more still to be learnt. I have also developed and learnt a lot about myself. I have not just made work friends, I have made friends for life here too.
My tips for applying to Gist would be; 1) Read up on the company, get an idea of what we do and the history on Gist. 2) Know the Gist vision and standards, also Critical Success Factors.. - In 1-1 Reviews etc, you are scored against. 3) Make sure it is right for you, if you are unsure and are just applying for random apprenticeships - then dont apply?Be sure you understand what you are getting yourself in for. 4) Know its not going to be easy and you aren't going to get to places unless you put in the effort! 5) Be prepared for the Assessment Centre. Even if you are not the most confident person, know that there is always a chance!
