My job title is Apprentice Test Lab Engineer. My day to day duties include; - Testing various products such as switches, sockets, LSCs, FCUs. - Perform internal calibration on equipment. - Perform internal audits relating to BS 17025. - Review Customer Returns.
I feel like I have learned various new skills. I have developed a better understanding of the British standards as well as a better understanding of how a UKAS lab works. I have gained more knowledge on every day products as well as developing personal skills such a communiation skills, using your own initiative plus problem solving skills.
I am really enjoying learning a new topic plus the guys in the lab have helped me settle in great.
In terms of value it is hard to judge however I feel I am valued. I have been told that I am the future of the company and that is true as the company is putting in time, effort and money to help train me and make me into a good worker.
I feel it is well organised as it is clear what we will be doing over the course of the apprenticeship. The only downside was the location of the college however it was very easy for me to transfer to a more local one.
If I need to support then I can always ask for it which is good to know.
My employer gives me a lot of support as I have been on various training courses as well as them funding for my learning.
Obviously I'd like to be on more but since I am an apprentice I feel the wage is great, all my costs are covered with enough left over for me to spend on stuff for myself.
There isn't much around my workplace however there are things near by such as leisure centers, supermarkets/food places. Plus my workplace is near to where I live so it makes commuting to work very easy.
Yes
They are a great company to work for as they have places all over the UK as well as all over the world so there are plenty opportunities. Furthermore, they have various departments where you could work therefore it is easy to keep yourself motivated and challenged with the different roles that they offer.
To be yourself and not be try and be someone you're not as you quickly get found out. Furthermore once you have been accepted to make sure you always give 100% as you can gain a good reputation which will help in the future.
