I am a project management apprentice, currently working In project control. On a daily basis I run reports and continually provide support to the project manager and aim to make processes carried out within the team more efficient. I am responsible for running periodic and weekly reports for multiple different platforms including IFS, SAP and open options.
I am currently studying for my APM exam which is an internally provided qualification. Courses such as respect and banter training and transactional awareness are provided to apprentices to develop their skills whilst working for the company. I have grown more confident in the time that I have been in my role due to the in work and college demands for my to present to a large group of people.
I really enjoy the scheme that I am on and find my team extremely supportive. Regular events are organised by my team in order to keep the team moral high. The company provide many incentives which help to make the role more enjoyable. Outward bound and other team building exercise that take place for members of the different apprenticeship schemes enable apprentices to bond with colleagues and build up trust between each other.
I feel extremely valued by the company as I continue to receive support and assistance wherever I require it in my role. The support I receive from the scheme leaders, such as the reviews carried out every 12 weeks and the continuous course offered for apprentices to develop their skills makes me feel as though the company care about my personal and professional development.
The induction to the scheme was very well organised and had a clear structure. when taken on training days/courses we are always given a clear breakdown of the day in the form of a structured itinerary. The only criticism I would provide would be to potentially avoid clashes in priorities by studying the college deadlines and potentially placing the APM exam in a period where apprentices are less busy.
I receive continuous support from my scheme managers in the form of 1-2-1 meetings and constant email communication. I am confident that I can approach my scheme managers with any concerns that I have about my role or how to scheme is being run. I am comfortable with my scheme managers seeking out my placements as I know that my personal and professional development is of high importance to them.
My line manager provides constant support as he is always available to help me whenever I require assistance or clarification. I am confident that any queries that I raise will be taken seriously and I will never be left confused or misunderstanding a task I have been asked to complete.
The salary that we receive on the Project Management Higher Apprenticeship Scheme is highly competitive and accommodates for my living costs and more. I am able to socialise well, pay board, cover my own travelling expenses and book multiple holidays. I believe that it would be difficult to find a salary for 18 year olds that would meet that provided by BAE Systems.
The Project Management Higher Apprenticeship Scheme allows you to become involved in groups such as Inspiring Women, Aspire and the Warton Site Charity Committee. Within these groups opportunities are available to hold conferences, attend events such as the gay pride and carry out regular charitable activities such as a bake sale or an Easter egg collection.
Yes
I would recommend any apprenticeship scheme at BAE Systems because it is a great way to get your foot in the door to such a great company. The company incentives such as the pension and share schemes are just two among many benefits of working for BAE Systems.
I would highly recommend taking time over the detailed answers in the initial application. This will be the first impression that is made and is therefore extremely important.
