Engineering Technician Apprentice. I am a Mechanical Apprentice and my day to day tasks vary depending on the placement I am. When in the drawing office I am modelling piping systems on Foran. When in stage 1 I am usually carrying out calculations contributing to the design of the piping systems. I also have placements on the ship in Liaison and Testing and Commissioning where I do jobs like setting mechanical systems to work.
I have been attending college for the duration of my apprenticeship. I have completed my HNC in Engineering Systems and my SVQ Level 2, I am currently completing a HND in Engineering Systems and carrying out an SVQ Level 3 in the workplace. Working in a business has also taught me skills with working with people and conducting myself in a professional manner.
I enjoy working in a professional environment and working on a live project. I enjoy working with a team on a project and striving towards the same goal.
I feel valued at BAE Systems as when I finish work I receive credit from my manager. I also feel valued because I am asked to take on many jobs and complicated jobs. I am being pushed to work to my highest potential and seeing how far I can go.
Ever since the first day in the programme I have known what I will be doing over my 4 years and I have been given this information with enough time to plan out my years ahead. I have been given plenty of support whenever I need it.
I have been given support whenever I have needed it. In college there are lecturers that have given us a lot of guidance and assistance in our studies. We also have a clear path in what we will be doing over the years that we are attending college.
When I work I receive a great deal of support. My manager always gives me tasks that will test me but are also within my means. The people working in my team along side me also give me help when I require it. I feel I can ask them at any time for help and they will give it to me.
The salary I receive is enough for me to live my life and I think it fairly reflects the work I am putting in. I think the steady increase will reflect the increase of our ability.
Outside of work we have many opportunities to grow and contribute through attending schools to educate and promote the younger generations on engineering. We also have opportunities to do charity work in the name of BAE Systems.
