I'm and Engineering Technician Apprentice with BAE Systems. I am currently on a two year placement plan, the placements involve working for various departments and disciplines. I am currently in a placement within Stage 2 Structures. This involves being responsible for your own ship unit and doing a range of tasks within it.
Yes, So far have a achieved a HNC in Engineering Systems and an SVQ level 2 which I did full time at college in my 1st year. I am currently doing a HNC and a HND in Mechanical Engineering which is day release over my 2nd and 3r year. The business has also sent me to various training coursed which need to be completed, these include Health and Safety and FORAN Training, which is the design software I use.
I enjoy BAE System's apprenticeship program. it is more challenging that I initially thought however, you are constantly learning.
The departments value you and are keen to train you within their team. This is shown at my 12 week reviews with my training officer when they use a scoring sheet and comment on your work and ability.
There is a placement plan set up which involves 6 different 3 month placements over 2 years.
We all receive a lot of help and support from our training provider. Especially when writing our log books.
We also get a lot of help and assistance from our employer. There are many schemes set up to help you in all aspects.
The annual salary was a lot for me as I joined straight after high school and still live at home.
Yes, I am a STEM Ambassador. This allows me to work with schools and encourage young people to get involved in STEM Careers.
