* I am currently in a project control role * This involves looking into the spend and invoicing of the transport and Storage for one of our contracts * To do this I have to communicate with the logistics teams and the contract owners * Daily I have to process invoices and look into the budgets we have to ensure that we are staying within budget. Monthly I review this information with the relevant teams and quarterly I prepare the Contract Status Report for the contract teams.
During this placement within my apprenticeship I have developed further skills and understanding around the bought out costs of contracts. I have completed all mandated training and have completed further change management and risk training.
I have a very friendly and supportive team this year which helps a lot. I am doing a similar role this year as I did last year so even though I enjoy the work I am ready for a change which will come in the next placement move.
I know that my team and my line manager appreciate the work I do and because I have built good working relationships know that my team values me too.
The structure of the programme is easy to understand and work with. The induction process is a difficult one due to joining such a huge company. I felt it went okay and know that the apprentice team work every year to improve this process. There is always plenty of support and even though we only have a manager review every 12 weeks there is always opportunity to have meetings in between. College days are once a week and this tends to work well.
We can always contact teachers for help if we need it. Some teachers will take on a mentor role and are really helpful where others tend to take a step back.
There is a lot of support from BAE. There are several lines of support. Within my team and within the apprentice community there are several points of contacts that I can go to, to discuss any issues that I might have whether it be workplace, personal or college.
My Salary is good however with living quite far away from work, petrol takes up a relatively large amount of it. I also feel that the marking system that determines your pay rise each year is subjective and that some managers may be stricter meaning that it is unfair.
There is the Charity team which gives opportunity to do voluntary events outside of work. There are some company events, awards ceremonies and evening dinners. I also have a good apprentice year group who have a lot of social events outside of the work place.
Yes
Overall, good apprenticeship with a lot of work opportunities and movement opportunities.
To look into which jobs they would actually like to do and have an idea of roles they would like to undertake. To be patient- your first job usually isn't a perfect fit but a lot of lessons come with it.
