In my apprenticeship I tour various departments’ very couple of months or so with the aim of learning about each department and the work that it entails, I would get involved with the work they perform and try to learn as much as I can about the job and its place in the business as a whole.
I have learnt lots of new skills over the apprenticeship such as learning how to solder, learning how to draw technical drawings , learnt how to design circuit and learnt how to program, the skills I have learnt have helped me not just in work environments and it has helped boost my confidence
I have enjoyed my apprenticeship from the start. The main points that make my apprenticeship good is the people I work with, as they share their knowledge and help as well. Also I know I’m picking up skills and knowledge which will help me in later life. I enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere on site as well
I really enjoy working at BAE systems and love coming to work everyone on site is friendly and helpful and makes you feel valued and part of something. People take the time to explain things you and show you how things work even though it slows them down and they aren’t asked to help they do it of their own backs.
The program is very well structured, I always know where I should be and what I should be doing there are also lots of opportunities to extra things such as completions or charity fundraising events inside and outside of work, you can get negotiate time to do extra things or catch up if you’re behind
I have not enjoyed our training provider very much as I often find them to be unorganised and disinterested at a management level however our tutors are always approachable and try their best to help us, most of the time it is skills I have picked up at work and contacts I have made a t work that end up helping get through college
I receive lots of support from the employer they are very good at looking after staff not just in the working environment but outside of work too, I know I could go to them with any problem and they would do their best to support and help me even if they aren’t required to
Whilst we get paid a fair amount it you cannot do much with it, I travel from quite far away and my travel costs are quite high which takes a big chunk of my pay check I often don’t have much money to do this at weekends and such or indulge hobbies, some other apprentices have had to take second jobs to supplement the pay. Other sites in the UK pay a lot higher than mine this is due to organisation and structure of the company I feel this is rather unfair. Over all it still pay quite well for an apprenticeship
There are lots of opportunities to get involved with extra activities outside normal work there are always company events going on and apprentice activities that we can do, there are charity events and such along with careers fairs for local schools, site trips to places of interest such as shows and events are organised.
Yes
