I am an Assistant Quantity surveyor at Crossrail C405 - Paddington. My role to adminstrate and manage subcontractors on site and ensure they’re on program, getting paid and completing the work as per their activity schedule. I also assist with other large packages on thr project that are completing the glass canopy and ventilation for the station
During my experience with Costain, i have gained enormous confidence in the world of work and by starting this apprenticeship it has help me build a great foundation which to build my future. I have developed my organisation and time management skills due to the fact that i partake in both a full time jon with Costain and studying at university to become chartered at the end of the course.
I enjoy my program as it allows me to be the best version in myself, i learn new things everyday and look forward to facing construction problems and negotiating with my subcontractors on prices for works to be completed.
I feel like i am very valued by Costain because i am always being reviewed on my performance and job development. Costain have put me on many courses that have developed me drastically at no cost. I have my expense paid and my university paid. I am very grateful for the opportunities always handed to me by Costain and look forward to staying with Costain for my entire working life.
The programme is very well structured because the modules on distance learning are always set out. The timing of exams and assignments is always manageable and the tutors are always supportive.
The training provider is always helpful and their is a Online virtual learning system which allows us to put down queries which are replied to immediately. There is also a helpline 24/7 which is there to support us at stressful times.
The Apprenticeship Officer visits my project and speaks to my manager to involve them into my learning and give them an insight of what i do on my course. The employeer is very supportive and proactive about my career and learning
The Salary is great because depending on the performance we have a pay rise every April and that is motivating to keep us on top of out objectives and responsibilities.
I have been involved in many opportunities for Costain like events and courses outside the organisation which are paid for, i am the Charity champion for RedR UK at my project.
