I am a machinist, so a typical day to day role is for me to be operating a machine, such as a lathe or a milling machine. I also am learning the machines around me under supervision and am gaining experience and knowledge from some of the more experienced guys around me
yes, I have learnt many skills during my apprenticeship, many of which being on the job skills and experience. although many general skills such as self confidence have also been developed and pushed. I feel like I have learnt lots of new skills that I use daily such as on the job techniques that you wouldn't learn anywhere else
I thoroughly enjoy my work, as I have supportive and friendly co workers who are always willing to help me and show me new ideas and techniques. the work itself is varied and interesting. the company is great to work for and makes you feel part of a bigger team. I feel like this job met my expectations
I feel very valued by BAe, although it is a big company the benefit of working on a smaller site is that everyone knows each others, meaning everyone feels more like a family rather than co workers. I feel like I am given the appropriate recognition and good feedback on my work and learning
I feel like my programme is very well organised and structured. the plan allows me to move about, learning all different machine and gaining knowledge off of more people, however it doesn't feel rushed. my induction was very good and made me feel very welcomed. the support structure is top class and is always there for you regardless
the support that I receive is second to non, I always know where help is if I need it, and with regular probationary reviews I know I can always out my concerns. the general attitude to apprentices is rather good, seeing them more as co workers rather than learners, I have had no problems but if I did I am confident they would be dealt with well

The salary is a very good one for the age, for example someone could be 17 straight from school could be earning more than most people their age. I think this is a very competitive salary, with clear and concessive rises at the end of qualification completing, this is a salary that I haven't seen beaten or matched by any other company
Yes, as a STEM ambassador there are man opportunities to get involved in. whether this is helping out at a school or at large events. the company are very ok with apprentices taking the afternoon off to help with STEM events or any other events. there are also many groups with work that you could go to.
Yes
