As an apprentice it will involve going around the different areas of the poole site in the factory (and a part in engineering) learning skills and doing the work we do to gain skills in the workplace. Each are I go to has a time frame and a skill set which I am expected to have fully learnt by the time in that area is up. Admittedly some areas are better than others which is why the full 10 stars aren't given since some have been non-beneficial I'd say for me.
Yes, the majority of skills I've learn in the workplace & at college are new, especially considering I hadn't done anything similar prior to joining Siemens, so I am always learning and progressing with everything I undertake.
It's thoroughly enjoyable, and well set out. The people who I have worked with are good and it's a great environment to be able to work in, and an environment for me which I find I can complete a good amount of work to meet targets. Admittedly I find the work part much more enjoyable than the college part but to gain the qualifications college has to be done.
Although I'm an apprentice you still get to do jobs which aren't simple, you have to learn and progress which is what I'm able to do here as an apprentice, so being challenged is a good thing so in that sense I suppose it is being valued to do certain jobs which are a higher complexity. You do get recognised for good work as well so recognition goes a long way.
At work the structure is great and thoroughly set out.
If this is the college; then it's not too bad for majority of it, admittedly some of the teachers are better than others in term of organisation and teaching techniques, the college itself organisation is dreadful.
Enough support, I don't rely on the support as obviously you want to be independent and try to learn as much as you can yourself but obviously with help then I can get support
Very well.
Yes, we have a site called mychoice where we're able to choose benefits such as gym memberships for instance. Also as an apprentice we're doing a project called Greenpower having to create a car and then race it at events. There are events that the company does such as apprenticeship evenings which I have got involved in.
Yes
Great place to work, pension scheme is really good, ideal working environment.
Be yourself and make sure you're not afraid to get things wrong as I find it's one of the most important things when learning. Obviously when applying there is different stages but just use your knowledge to the best of your ability to answer the questions on the test (if they still have that) correctly. I don't know what I would've liked to be told, probably the same as I had been told; nothing. That was I don't overthink. It's also best too not overthink!
