As a technical apprentice, I complete work place placements. A work placement allows me to gain an appreciation of the job role that I am working within. On a daily basis I engage with other team members to strive towards completing active tasks within the business. On occasions I am given larger responsibilities, this could be undertaking a job solo.
whilst on the apprenticeship I have developed numerous skills both practical and technical. I have also attended a number of additional training courses on behalf of the company, these courses are transforming me into a more valuable asset. I have also attain additional qualifications whilst on the course alongside my NVQ, HNC and HND. I have also attained a Level 1 in Employment, Teamwork and community skills.
I thoroughly enjoy my time upon the apprentice program. I enjoy the variety of work that I am presented with and the responsibility's that are placed upon me. all of the team members that I have had the pleasure of working with have been extremely helpful and have provided me with assistance when required. The apprentice programme has definitely shaped my career path ahead of me and has provided me with what should be a prosperous career within the company.
I feel that as an apprentice you are valued a lot within the company. the company regularly advertises the success of apprentices within the business whether this be through the internal internet service or through the yearly apprentice awards. The apprentices are encouraged to get involved with additional programmes such as the prince's trust and the innovation challenge. These programmes allow the apprentices to represent the company externally and this is recognised by the company and managers within the business.
the programme is very well structure. The programme for a technician is run over four years. within the first year all of the induction and basic training is completed in house at the Academy of Skills and Knowledge. Within the next three years, work place placements are completed. These give an appreciation of the work out within the business. Apprentices also complete their HNC and HND alongside this throughout the four your on day release. Regular support meeting are help with assessors to ensure that the apprentices are progressing well.
Support is available when required. Each apprentice is assigned an assessor. The assessor performs regular check ups on the apprentices to ensure that they are on target with their apprenticeship. Support is also available outside of the apprenticeship. This could be with health issues or financial issues etc. the company has a very positive attitude towards providing support to its employees.
Within the work place support is readily available. if support is required relating to a job then the managers are approachable or other team members. Within the apprentice programme each apprentice is provided with a mentor whilst in their placement. their mentor aids them with the work that they are required to complete and is their first point of contact within the department. Additional support is available from the HR teams and other departments across the site.
my salary currently meets my required costs as I still live at home and pay a small rent fee. My salary allows me to get by for the month and run a car, buy food and pay bills. I have on occasion had to restrict my daily costs due to living costs varying. the company pays a small amount towards travel costs however these fluctuate from month to month.
BAE offer a vast array of opportunities outside of the workplace. These include social events such as mud runner, external learning opportunities, lectures, events within the local community, voluntary programmes such as the Prince's trust. The company also host a number of events such as the awards evenings and the outward bound courses.

BAE Systems is a global company that has a massive potential for growth. The BAE Apprenticeship is a very prestigious opportunity and defines a solid path for a prosperous career. I would recommend this to a friend as not only will they be benefiting from attaining the qualifications they will also be gaining on job experience.
