  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of the first year was very structured and organised. We started with a week of inductions and then had the relevant training and studying schedule to meet our first year requirements. we had good support from both instructors and our designated managers along the way. In the second year the programme was very much similar to real life working and required a proactive approach and organisation from myself. I have had task delegation and been within and team hierarchy. I have monthly meetings with my line manager/NVQ assessor to capture my second year progress.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • In my first year we had lots of support from my training provider as we had daily and weekly contact with tutors and advisors. they were very good with guidance to rectify and find solutions for normal day to day problems. In my second year my we have less contact with advisors, which is once a month with an advisor as we are in work placements. I do enjoy the training.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive monthly support from my line manager with a sit down catch up and every 3 months I complete a Learner Progress Review. This allows capture of my apprenticeship so far. I get good guidance from my current work placement team and they are happy to support with work related problems.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary for my apprenticeship is okay for the first year as the accommodation is provided while in training. But in second year, it is a work placement and no accommodation is provided. Therefor it is a case of being very organised with money and budgeting for everything.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • In my second year I have found a few outside work opportunities in terms of work night outs, local flying club visits and organised sports events.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • World class company, great training, great people and great support.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • In the application process practice for assessment days and online test with free online resources. Public, military experiences and recognised clubs such as cadets show understanding and discipline. Work experience relevant to scheme would be really beneficial, keen interest in scheme and work area. Willing to be a team player and to push yourself mentally will help so much. If I was to apply again I would recommend finding revision techniques that work really well for the individual as there is lots of learning and testing.
