I am an apprentice finance analyst on the sales ledger side of the company. My daily tasks will include posting bank statements and cash sheets, chasing aged debt, setting up new accounts and running credit checks. I have a lot of contact with the dealerships that I manage the accounts for which are - Liverpool, Stockport, Manchester and Parts North West. I will also have customers from these dealerships calling and emailing me queries such as requesting copy invoices and verifying bank details. A project I was recently responsible for was informing all of our customers across the UK that we have changed our bank details for all of our sites. This including sending out letters with the relevant bank details on to all the credit account holders for each site.
Since joining my manager and my team have helped me to understand and use systems that I wasn't familiar with prior to joining PSA, these include autoline and PLPR SAP. I have also completed an excel training course to give me new skills and make it easier when I am running reports. My assessor from the academy sets me assignments to complete and helps me to understand questions I am unsure of if I send him an email or when he makes his visits every month or two.
Since joining PSA I have really enjoyed my programme, I like my position and get on well with my team. I feel comfortable and not out of my depth with my job role and if I am ever struggling with something my team will always help me out. I have also got on well with people from other departments of the company such as the other trainees.
My manager will congratulate and thank me when I have done a good job with something which helps me to feel valued, we have regular meetings to discuss how I am finding the work and her plan for my future time in the department such as spending time at a dealership and other departments so I am able to see all sides of the finance process. The staff at the dealerships are always happy to help and show recognition when I have helped them with something.
When I started I was given induction and training days which helped me to get introduced to other trainees and the team that I would be working with. I have regular meetings with my manager and assessor to discuss whether I have any problems.
I have regular meetings with my training provider who will help me with any questions on my previously set assessments and I can also email him with any questions I may have.
I receive a large amount of support from my manager and my team as they are always happy to help me if I have any questions or if I am struggling with something. I haven't had to go to the HR team about any problems but I feel I happily could if I needed to.
As I live at home with my parents I only pay a small amount of my salary to them for living costs. If I had to live alone and rent somewhere I think I would struggle with my current salary but the position I am in I have enough to spend what I want to and save.
I have been to a few company social events such as Christmas parties and quizzes. I also regularly meet with the friends I have made at work outside of work.
Yes
Since joining the company my confidence has grown massively and I have been given the opportunity to meet new people and learn new things as well as seeing different departments and aspects of the company.
My advice would be to be confident and friendly in the group interview stages and induction days to make friends. You should also ask any questions if you have any as everyone here is happy to help.
