I'm currently on the cableways team, my role as an apprentice designer during this particular placement is to learn the basics of 3d cable integration. I have completed the training exercises and am now routing minor runs to pieces of equipment in the model.
So far I have learnt many new sills both in college through the national diploma and in work gaining more practical on the job training. As part of my ND I'm studying courses in maths and electrical engineering which I regularly apply to my role as a designer. In work I have taken many design training courses and am constantly receiving guidance from my apprentice trainer.
I enjoy the program, I feel productive being able to work and contribute to the company while also receiving training and progressing my own skillset. I have found the culture throughout the company to be very welcoming and friendly to new apprentices such as myself.
I generally feel valued within the company as all teams seem to do their best to progress you onto actual work after completing their training tasks. As I previously mentioned I am currently routing cables to pieces of equipment within the model so do feel as though I am contributing and valued.
For the most part my training programme is well structured. I spend so many weeks on a team then move onto the next one. How well organised the program is dependant on the specific team I am on and whether they have a training schedule planned. Early careers itself has been well organised communicating with teams over placements.
On all the teams I have been on I have had an apprentice trainer. It is their job to ensure I have work to do and am competent and happy at completing it. All the apprentice trainers I have had have been happy to answer any questions I ask them and have always been available to help me when I ask for it.
Support is readily available from my employer whether it be my line manager, team leader, apprentice trainer...etc and I feel that I can approach them at any time with any problems I may have. Also at reviews I am always asked if I am happy and would like to receive support in any way.
I feel that my salary is fair as I am able to afford travel expenses as well as daily and social costs.
Yes, I have attended community events such as beach cleans as well as company events regarding mental health and enrichment activities.
Yes
I feel that BAE is a very welcoming and professional company to work for with a lot to offer young people interested in engineering.
Take your time throughout the application and interview process, start preparing as soon as possible and have someone else read over your application form.
