I am an Apprentice Designer, working on the Hull sector of the submarine design, this involves me designing multiple different things to do with the creating, transportation and outfit of the submarine and can be doing completely different things week to week.
I have done my ND1 at college and am half way through my ND2, and hopefully will be accepted onto the HNC and Degree programmes in the years to come, I have also had a lot of internal CAD training courses as well as learning how to conduct myself day-to-day professionally.
I enjoy this apprenticeship quite a lot, working and meeting new people everyday and I feel trusted in what I do considering I've been in the business less than 2 years
I feel very valued by BAE and also the team I am currently on, it seems as though the work I do is very important and it makes me want to do it to the best I possibly can within time constraints
I think the programme is well organised as I have never had to wait longer than a few days to be able to do something due to having incorrect training/inductions.
I don't receive a lot of support off the training providers I feel like they give us a poor level of feedback and don't help anyone if they struggle
I receive a lot of support from my current providers, they always come up to me and ask what I'm doing and if I need any help, so I never do things drastically wrong
Yes, I think the pay packet meets my living costs and travel as I live at home with my parents and close to work, I cant comment for people with children or their own homes, or live further afield
There are opportunities to do things outside of work, I play football for my local team and go running
Yes
It is a good company which will teach you valuable lessons not only for your job, but your life too and should hopefully have a lot of work on for the next 30 years so is secure
Put enough effort in and you can go anywhere in this business, they pick up on your work ethics and reward hard-workers
