Electrical Designer. Day to day I produce electrical drawings that can be followed to install equipment and cables onto the boat with ease. I interact with the engineers depending which system I am working on, other colleagues and teams. There are different teams which cover different aspects of the electrical design process. I don't really deal with any external contacts currently, however some designers are located in America and Manchester so sometimes they are included in meetings/conferences. I am responsible to ensure that drawings are drawn to the standard requirements.
I have completed my National Diploma and have started my HNC year 1. Also, I have completed training courses which I needed to work on the systems within the business. I have been to conferences away to discuss health and safety, diversity and work ethic. I have become a STEM ambassador. Have started to tutor an apprentice.
I really enjoy my job. Its different and challenges you quite a lot. I move around all the time so I am not specifically on one team but the teams I have been on I have enjoyed. The company are great, they take into consideration your well being etc.
I feel extremely valued as an apprentice. The scheme offers apprentice of the month and sometimes you can be nominated and its nice to get some recognition for the work that you take on.
Very well structured. There are inductions on every team you visit due to lots of different offices. They provide a lot of training. Always offer support and I feel like if in future I need more support then they will be able to provide me with this and I'd feel comfortable to ask. Have given me the opportunity to complete my higher education.
I have a lot of support from my coordinators and line manager, as well as project leaders and assistant project leaders. I know what support is offered if I need it too. On my 12 week reviews I am always asked if I have any concerns or problems, or need additional support.
I receive support from my line manager. I don't really see other managers so I couldn't comment on the support from them. But my line manager is very supportive.
The salary for daily living, travel and social cost is great.
There are lots of opportunities outside of work, especially being an apprentice. Sometimes the same people can be chosen for the opportunities though, this can put other people of from offering.
Yes
Its a great opportunity with opportunities within the business too. You are every well supported and the apprentice scheme is good.
Make sure you get someone to check the application for grammar/spelling mistakes. Make sure you prepare for the interview process, look online and make sure you have a brief understanding of the business.
