I work as a Project Management trainee, I operate in 4month placements and currently work within a planning function. Here I am experiencing how the team works as well as learning some fundamental planning skills for my own development, whilst here I am managing a plan for a projects delivery on behalf of their team.
As part of this course I have gained many different skills, both personal and professional. I have had the ability to work in many different settings gaining many technical competencies and personal/professional skills. As well as being allowed to attend various training courses, in addition to any academic learning, which is provided as part of the course (eg APM).
I am more than happy with the course. The work provided is challenging and very engaging. I have been surprised how welcoming the staff have been throughout the business, and have found this to be the main reason for my content with the course. The programme has met or exceeded all expectations, and I can say I enjoy coming to work on a weekly basis.
I feel internal to the team I work in currently I feel vary valued, this can differ per placement, but I cannot say there has been a time I have felt completely unvalued. I do however feel that some contributions go un-noticed and unless you personally voice any achievements made they wont be recognised, however this is not something I would personally feel comfortable doing.
The programme is very well organised. Goals and objectives for the programme are clear and measures are in place to help you meet them. There are regular reviews which take place to monitor progress. I also feel there is always someone in place to support where needed. I feel the programme is vary mature and things run efficiently.
Training provided is thorough and to a high level. I haven't had an instance where I have felt I need support with learning at this point, however I feel if needed the help would be available. From experience of talking to other people on the programme I feel this would be an accurate summary
The support from the employer is fantastic. The early careers team I find to be excellent in their approach and are very friendly and welcoming. The business also offer mentors to all employees. The attitude to support trainees from all areas of the business is fantastic, I have not worked in another place of employment where I have felt the support network operates to this level.
As I took a pay deduction to initially join the scheme, with incremental pay rises I have only retained my wage before joining the business. This is however short term and will be improved again on an annual basis until the programme finishes. The wage however is by no means poor for the are I live.
The opportunity to help in the community and access to various clubs/groups outside of work is fantastic. Working with STEM activities also offers a chance to be involved with projects outside of the business. Through working here I have had the opportunity to join a 5-a-side football league midweek with new friends.
Yes
Yes, Excellent business to work for with many benefits. I find almost all staff to be positive and helpful and enjoy working within the business.
A good knowledge of the business is preferable during the application process (particularly interviews), information of which could be found on the website. I think the process can seem slightly daunting at first but it is nothing to be worried about, once you arrive for assessment days the process is smooth and people will be on hand to help you on the day.
