I am an apprentice site engineer. My job involves setting out various structure and retaining walls. I also set out soil nails and various other things. I write permits and raise technical queries. I work with a senior engineer which is good for me as he shows me how things are done.
I have learnt lots of new skills during my apprenticeship such as using the equipment. My site skills are always developing as I gain more experience on site.
I enjoy my programme as I get to gain lots of site experience whilst getting paid and working towards a qualification.
I think I am valued by Costain but feel I will be valued more as I achieve higher job roles and progress with my career.
My programme is well structured although I would like more meetings with the apprenticeship organiser to discuss how I progress in my career and apply for university.
I have lots of support off of my college tutors and they are very helpful if I went to them with a problem.
I receive a good amount of support from Costain engineers and section engineers. If I had a problem understanding something they would explain and help me.
I think I am paid a good wage as an apprentice and think it is very good that my salary increases every 6 months providing I have a good review with my manager.
Not sure how to answer this question.
Yes
I'd recommend Costain to a friend because they run a good apprenticeship programme with a good wage and offer lots of opportunities within the company.
Make sure you are always willing to learn new skills that people on site are showing you.
