  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an apprentice, I complete tasks on Tessello to contribute towards my Apprenticeship standards as well as complete any work that colleagues need me to help out with. This involves creating endorsements and slips or emailing underwriters and clients to inform them of any new developments with the policy. I have regular telephone meetings with members of the team to get updates on accounts and if there is anything they want me to update them on, I give them the information.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far, I have completed the IF1 exam and am on course to complete IF4 which has developed my knowledge of the insurance world dramatically. I have also learnt how to develop my confidence and try new things and be organised so that my work is completed on time and the insurance policy inception is not delayed. I have learnt how to use different systems required to complete the placement and have also strengthened my communication skills, especially with those who I am not familiar with. Internal training courses have given good examples of what to do to avoid any errors and ensure that the client receives the best services.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme, my team are fun to work with and always happy to help or answer any questions I might have. They are very inclusive and ensure that I know what I am doing and they offer support when I am not sure how to do something. As a company, Aon has offered a lot of support and resources to ensure that I can complete the Apprenticeship and gain lots of experience. The trainers for the Apprenticeship programme are very helpful and offer a lot of support for the exams and passing the Apprenticeship.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aon?
  • I feel very valued by my team, they are constantly praising me and are comfortable in asking for my help in doing certain tasks and including me in meetings with underwriters or clients. My manager has been great in ensuring that I am comfortable within the team and that I always have someone with me to help should I need it and is always encouraging me to try more things and learn more about Insurance. The team also make sure to involve me in projects and clients when they feel that it would be a great learning experience for me and are willing to help show me what I need to do.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is quite well structured, I feel as though I know what I need to do to get further through the scheme and achieve my qualification. Sometimes there are problems with organisation, e.g, getting my CII pin at the start of the programme was difficult and delayed meaning we didn't sit our exams until January - later than expected. Overall, I feel quite happy with my experience so far, there hasn't been anything that has really disappointed me.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive quite a bit of support from my training provider and any questions I have I know that I can ask them for help and they will answer quite quickly. There are sometimes where I ask a question and the answer doesnt quite make sense to me and I have to ask further ones to clarify the answer.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because the support they give is excellent and they are very encouraging for us to pass exams and get qualifications. They know that you will be an asset to their workforce and therefore are willing to dedicate time and money towards your studies.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Be patient during the application process, don't think because you haven't heard back straight away that you definately don't have the job. There's not very much to get nervous about, they are really supportive and encouraging and want you to try your best so that they can see what you will bring to the team. Try to take as many opportunities beforehand so that you have more experience and can relate easier to the job.
