I am studying Bsc (Hons) degree in digital and technological solutions at Winchester University and have learnt key topics relevant to my business as a whole. Training courses: There is an opportunity to take part in external courses but I have not yet done so. I have completed various e-learning courses and contract awareness training. I have been able to develop my business skills such as presenting, communication and team working skills.
Work - Really good working environment and opportunities. The workplace is very enjoyable to be in as you can network with other members and meet new people. Team - Friendly and welcoming team. My team have been very helpful and encouraging from day 1 of the programme. This has allowed to to enjoy my day to day work. Company - Good company values and benefits Overall - Good experience
It is difficult to measure how much recognition I get due to being new on the course. I feel that I get a standard level of recognition and involvement within the company. My manager is very supportive and thanks me for tasks that I do , however it is hard to get recognition when doing work for others as people may pass it off as their own or you are just editing and checking others work. I can not truly comment on this until I get more actively involved and responsible for more tasks.
Induction - Very well run and structured induction run by the CGI HR team in the reading office. The team are very supportive and so are the mentors and buddy schemes they set up for us. Studying - University days are too long 9am-7pm (7am-9pm for me due to communte to the university) There is not much time to study and I don't think the university are very supportive. Team - My team are very supportive and organised and are eager to help me out when they can.
The training provider currently is the university of Winchester. I do not feel like the university support the students sufficiently especially those on apprenticeship schemes. It is very difficult to get in contact with the university and get a reply from those running the course. I enjoy university as whole but do not think there is a good attitude towards supporting CGI students.
Fairly good support from CGI as an employer. Manager - Very supportive and catches up with me daily/ every 2 days to see how I am progressing and getting on with work. He frequently sets my tasks and makes sure I have a sufficient workload HR Team - Very friendly and supportive. They try to help students out when possible and run events for us to get involved in. Mentor and buddy - My mentor and buddy are very organised and support me for both university and work. This has been very useful to my progression.
Salary is 18,000 which is sufficient for first year students with no prior experience. This salary is low for people who have to relocate to london and work in the london offices (as there is no london wage). It is also low if you do a lot of commuting to the university or if you don't live near your base office however these terms were stated prior to signing up to the programme so these can not effect how well they meet my costs. The salary meets my daily and personal costs however I do not have high costs.
CGI is great for organising events and activities. SSC - Sport and social club (outside of work time events) - A CGI run scheme to allow members to go on free or discounted days out if they contribute £5 monthly. I use this scheme as I have been able to go out and network with individuals in various offices. There events are a lot of fun Volunteering - CGI has many CSR objectives and one of these are volunteering and giving back to the local community. I have volunteered at schools during my time at CGI by helping students practice for job interviews.
Yes
Overall a very good organisation for study, work and experience. There is a lot of room for progression and development, fair benefits and pay rates and CGI are one of the top employers in the UK. They also have very strong values, friendly staff and minimal conflict in the workplace. There is opportunity to develop in different areas IT and business and travel to different locations/offices with the role which is ideal for flexible workers.
Application: - be honest - be flexible and explain why you want to join CGI Interviews: - Be confident and prepare well - Don't be scripted but make sure you know why you want to apply and information about the business. Assessment days: - By friendly and interactive - Consider the CGI values and how you fit with these - Be sociable and try not to be nervous or shy as then you won't represent your true self Experience: - Great experience fro people who don't know what area they would like to go into or wants to develop their IT/ business skills.
