On a daily basis my role is to provide information to clients based on the monitoring that is done by the systems I manage. This information is provided by alerts that are triggered daily as well as performance and availability metrics. Another part of my role is checking client systems to make sure they are all up and running as expected.
I would say that I have learnt new skills such as BMC tools and monitoring, as well improving my general IT Knowledge. This has also improved things such as my confidence somewhat. The courses helped me learn things such as database management, a few project management skills, some programming such as SQL and networking.
I'd say the programme was somewhat enjoyable, some courses more so than others. The more technical courses were far more enjoyable than the others for me personally due to the fact I much prefer that sort of thing, and quite enjoy things like programming.
Overall, I feel like I am valued by CGI due to how much they are willing to provide training and advice to me whenever I ask for it, whether that be in the form of shadowing someone while they are doing a task I haven't seen before, allowing me to try things out in development systems to further my knowledge. With the access to all of the different training courses on the Skillport, I can learn things on the job that may not be related to the job itself, but is good to know.
Overall, I felt that the programme was decently organised and structured, however at the same time, I feel like because I was on a bespoke course which was a little bit of everything rather than a set course on Technical stuff like programming or networking that we were negatively effected by that.
Overall, I am very happy with all of the support that was available from the training providers due to the fact that they were open and willing to respond to any and all questions while we were on the course, and were even happy to respond to anything after the courses were over if we wanted to learn more in our own time, or to help us out on the coursework.
Overall, my employer provided more than enough support to me when I was doing the training courses. They covered all costs such as travel and hotels for the duration of each course, they allowed me a few hours a week to do the coursework during working hours.
Since starting this job back in October 2015, I can say that the salary I have been earning has always been enough to meet any and all costs I have had to expend. Recently I was given a pay rise which is currently setting me up nicely for moving out of my parents and starting a life of my own away from my parents at some point later this year.
Outside of work, there are loads of opportunities that i can take at any point in order to further myself in the skills i need for work, such as online training courses, video tutorials, reading books on certain subjects.

The company itself is a welcoming environment filled with people who want nothing but to see each and every person there flourish and become better at their job and a better person in general. Everyone treats everyone equally, like a family rather than work colleagues, from people just starting to managers, everyone is treated in the same way.
Simply, be yourself. Be honest when applying, the company and people who will see the applications will see some potential in every applicant.
