my job involves software development activities and going to Glasgow Caledonian university every week
I have learnt many new skills since i joined cgi both from experience at work at lessons at uni
while cgi offers a fun a challenging workplace i feel that the demands of both work in the office and work from uni can be extremely stressful and I have little time left for myself everyday
I feel well valued by cgi due to the amount of support that they offer to us with things such as mentors and a monthly call to see if we have any issues which they can help with
I felt that when we started our program was extremely disorganised which resulted in us having to do the trimesters at uni in a reverse order leading to us having to do the end of year project before we actually had any classes. However these issues are being improved over time
When our course started the support offered by the university was highly inadequate as we started the course in the summer when most of the lecturers and support staff were not present, however since it is no longer summer there are student support sessions which can be attended however these can be hard to actually attend because we only get to go to uni on Friday, some of the lecturers at the uni also do not do a good job of explaining the subjects leading to it being hard to follow.
we receive a large amount of help from cgi. we are offered support from more experienced co workers as well as careers advice form mentors and such. We are also given frequent chances to attend QA courses and virtual training course
while my salary is enough to cover the cost of living i have found that there are other companies which offer a substantially higher wage for what is essentially the same job.
there are many opportunities outside of work such as social events and charity events. there are also good opportunities to network with people both inside and outside of cgi
No
while cgi offers a fun and Challenging work environment there are any organisations which offer a higher wage for this same job.
research what cgi does before applying to them so that you can display a knowledge in the company during the interview
