my daily tasks involved going to college studying electrical engineering on day release up until BTEC level 3 from then on further education was optional and free, at work it involved assisting anyone with design related tasks day to day to build up my railway signalling knowledge and to take on any packs of work given to me from my manager
i have gained a BTEC LEVEL 3 in electrical engineering as well as an assistant design engineering licence with the IRSE. along with this a plethora of on the job courses from project management to out on track work certification
the company has an excellent work ethic and culture and a correct outlook on all aspects of work life from health and safety to team integration. Due to this it makes the work environment a very nice place to be and work.
Siemens is good at showing appreciation for employees, they have even set up a system dedicated to this within which people are nominated (auto rewarded £50 to £100) and then this is put in for judgement for even bigger awards and so on.
Siemens has been taking apprentices on for years so have a set and structured approach to all new employees. The college and travel arrangements are all already prepared before. and when you come back into the office management hand picks teams for you based on what they know your ability and personality is like
The training provider when i was there was york college which unfortunately did not provide the level of training, help or general organisation that you would expect of nearly enough anywhere. The tutors where trying very hard but it was all other elements of the college which let it down
They allow time within office to study when needed which you do not usually get with apprenticeships, and if any issues to do with any part of the apprenticeship arise you can go to nearly enough anyone and something will be done.
The salary i received at 16 when joining Siemens was a very large amount for someone my age and was a brilliant start to a so far successful career
Due to Siemens initiatives the company actually offers time off a year for employees to take part in volunteering activities and even helps arrange all of it. I myself was lucky enough to travel to the Goodwood estate and volunteer for a half day looking after aircraft and then spend the rest of the day in a VIP paddock watching F1 cars
Yes
All of the reasons above, just a generally very good company with brilliant future prospects
Just be honest and yourself, i attended the interview under the complete belief that i would not get the job and was just doing it as interview practice.
