I help design railway signaling systems for national companies
Yes, all rail signaling work requires specialist knowledge that cannot be gained outside of the rail industry
overall the program is interesting and enjoyable, their is minor points that tarnish the overall experience a little, but overall good.
I feel like siemens has given me a lot of work that actually affects large projects, and that my contribution has been valued by my employers
the organization within the company has been good, with us being assigned to a department before our entry into the company. organization of the local college has been sub optimal.
the training provider that we have interacted with external to Siemens started off ok, and gradually deteriorated over the period we have been with them. we were also not provided with a tutor and so had little access to feedback to the college about issues.
the support from our employer has been pretty good, our manager and training department has been supportive of us, and put us on several training courses that benefit our work. we were allocated time to do college work in during the work day which helped with my work life balance.
the salary of any apprentice is fairly low, but for the level and amount of work we completed I feel like it was a fair amount. if I had to travel further it may have been a problem but I walk to work so my expenses were low.
their are limited company events during the year, nothing that I was particularly interested in, but their are opportunities.
Yes
it is a large stable company that does support its employees, and I feel like their is a real future working for Siemens rail
learn how to wire a plug, take an interest in rail, and ensure you are confident in the interview!
