I am apprentice Systems Engineer, currently I am at college 5 days a week studying HNC Computing. I am currently responsible for my own learning - aiming to achieve the best grade possible in all course modules. I mainly interact with the course leader and college lecturers. Next year I will begin in the workplace whilst studying HND Computing part-time.
I have developed my practical skills massively since beginning, such as my ability in programming is greater, and so too is my practical ability in networking. Regarding personal skills, I feel I have also improved the way in which I manage my own time to balance college work, extracurricular activities and my social life.
I get a great amount of satisfaction from the work I carry out, I also find that the apprenticeship supplements my passion for computing - furthering the knowledge and satisfaction I gain from it. Occasionally I need to be apart of a team, which I enjoy as you get to work with new people. The company culture is friendly and encouraging. The apprenticeship exceeded my expectations, I am currently enjoying the content of the college course very much, and I find other employees very approachable and good to work with.
I feel very appreciated by my manager, whilst also recognised by both internal and external staff for my attainment and punctuality in the college. I am currently apart of a security group at college besides the HNC course as I wish to learn more about this area, and possibly work in this area in the future. I feel valued by both the college staff and those I meet at BAE.
Overall the programme is well organised and structured. The induction was very informative and welcoming. The training was useful, and so too is the support I have received. As regards to studying, the course is thoroughly thought-out with the lecturers being friendly and knowledgeable. The support system is also very good, I know who to goto should I require support, and besides that I also get bio-monthly reviews where I have the opportunity to bring up any issues.
I receive a lot of support from my tutor, support is very accessible and so too is any guidance for problems I may have. I find the attitude towards supporting me is second to none; I enjoy the apprenticeship very much as a result.
I receive a lot of support too from my employer, especially my mentor and manager. They are very supportive and if I have any problems/queries they are always very helpful. The HR Team are also very helpful and informative. Again their attitude towards helping me is very positive.
Very well, it covers my living costs, travel costs, daily costs, social costs, and the cost of the location in which I am staying.
I am told that upon joining the company their are many opportunities to become engaged in leisure/sports clubs in which the other employees get together for sports.
