Apprentice technician. Move around different placements in the work and help do jobs where I can. This is usually on a computer and using software packages to complete spread sheets/modelling/reviewing things. I am also completing a HNC/HND in mechanical engineering at college.
I have learned a variety of skills from different placements and completed courses inside the work such as software training and my ship passport. This is along with the HNC/HND in mechanical engineering I am studying at college.
I enjoy my work as the teams I am usually in are friendly and willing to teach me. It gives me an insight to the whole company and all the different roles within it. It has also let me work on 2 programmes, the OPV and the Type 26.
As apprentices it is hard to do a full job as we only get 4 months in a placement so by the time we half know what we are doing it is time to move again. The managers usually give me feedback and will let me know if I have done well and will say so at the review meetings.
The programme is very well structured s it is designed for us to learn lots of new skills over the whole company, and allows us to see what we are best at when we are choosing our full time job. There is plenty of support if we need it, and the fact we can go to college and get qualifications as well is very handy.
I receive fair support from my training officer, if I need it then they will be there to support.
Most placements I go to, the trainer I am with gives me plenty of support and are willing to help me with problems when I need. They will try keep me busy as well as giving me jobs I can learn off of. The team I am usually with are also usually willing to help if I ask
I get paid well with this apprenticeship.
There are several things you can sign up for yourself such as STEM events but sometimes if you are chosen, there are other road shows you can go to.
